Taoiseach Simon Harris has spoken to Donald Trump for the first time since he was named President-elect.
President-elect Trump won the American Presidential election last week against sitting Vice President Kamala Harris.
Simon Harris said he congratulated President-elect Trump on his election and the pair reflected on the strong and enduring ties between Ireland and the United States.
I have this evening spoken to the President-elect of the United States @realdonaldtrump & congratulated him on his election win. We discussed the economic & historical ties between Ireland & the US as well as the war in Ukraine & the Middle East. We agreed to keep in touch.

They also discussed the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The Taoiseach said he spoke to Trump for 20 minutes, with the President-elect mentioning he would like to return to Ireland.
President-elect Trump extended his best wishes to the people of Ireland, with him and the Taoiseach agreeing to stay in touch.
