Gardai in Waterford City are investigating after a restaurant was gutted by fire overnight.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at Eddie Rockets on the Cork Road at around 2.30am.

Six units of the fire brigade from Waterford City, Tramore and Dunmore East attended the scene and brought the blaze under control.

No-one was injured in the incident, however the American-style fast food restaurant was completely gutted.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination this morning.

Gardai are appealing for anyone with information or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious on the Cork Road in the early hours of this morning to contact them on 051 305300.
