Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi has back tracked on a decree he issued last month that granted him sweeping powers following a wave of violent protests which left several people dead and hundreds injured.

However, it is reported that a controversial referendum on a draft constitution will still go ahead as planned next week.

President Morsi is being accused of acting like a dictator, but he says he is safeguarding the revolution.
