Gardaí have arrested eight people in connection with a spate of robberies in the Dun Laoghaire area of Dublin.

The arrests were made in Tallaght and Wicklow as part of Operation Acer - which has seen officers recover valuables including a car, jewellery and electronic equipment.

This operation has involved officers from Detective, Crime Task Force and Drugs units as part of their efforts to combat burglaries in the Dun Laoghaire, Blackrock, Dundrum and Cabinteely areas of South Dublin.

This morning they searched homes in Tallaght and Wicklow and arrested seven men. They are aged between 19 and 23, while a woman (21) has also been detained.

As part of the operation to date, gardaí have recovered jewellery, clothes, computers, electronics and a car.

Two of the men and the woman were arrested on foot of bench warrants and are appearing in Dun Laoghaire and Tallaght District Courts today.

The remainder are being questioned at Dun Laoghaire, Dundrum and Blackrock garda stations. They can be held for up to 24 hours.
