Eight Gardaí have been suspended on foot of claims of alleged corruption in the Munster region.
A Garda spokesman confirmed the members of the force were suspended early on Saturday as a result of an ongoing investigation which is being led by Special Crime Operations.
The suspensions come after lengthy enquiries by a team of officers attached to the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Gardaí say the investigation is focused on corruption in public office.
They said they would not be commenting on the location or rank of those officers who have been suspended.
Last October, mobile phones and documents were seized and a number of Garda stations were searched as part of the probe.
A wider probe is continuing in the Munster region which has led to a number of Gardaí being arrested and questioned on suspicion of serious corrupt offences.
