In the North, two people have been arrested following violent disturbances in east Belfast this evening.

Eight police officers were injured after coming under attack from missiles and petrol bombs from a large group of Loyalist protesters.

One officer was taken to hospital but has since been discharged.

The Albertbridge Road had to be closed off for a time because of a burning barricade and a car was also set on fire.

The violent demonstrations are said to be related to the ongoing unrest in relation to the decision to restrict the flying of the British union flag above the City Hall.
