Indonesia and South Korea have launched an appeal after their badminton players were disqualified from London 2012.
8 female players were kicked out of the competition for unsporting conduct – after trying to lose matches in order to receive more favourable placing in the play-offs.
The Badminton World Federation investigated the players from China, South Korea and Indonesia finding them guilty of “not using best efforts to win a match”.
Spectators booed as the players served into the net, hit shots long or wide and employed time-wasting tactics as they appeared to try to engineer themselves a better draw in the next round of the competition.
The referee seemed to warn all the players and then disqualified them but quickly reversed his decision.
