An elderly man has died after he was knocked down while out for a walk in County Limerick.

The man, who was in his 70s, was struck by a car on New Street in Abbeyfeale shortly after 9pm last night.

He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A report will be sent to the local Coroner and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
