An elderly man has died after a car crash in County Kilkenny this morning. 

The single-vehicle crash happened at 9.30am on the R448 at Smithstown, Mullinavat. 

The driver, who was in his 70s, died and a post-mortem examination is being arranged. 

The road was closed for a Garda examination but has since re-opened. 

Anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and witnessed the crash has been asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 030 5300. 

They are particularly keen to talk to anyone who has dash cam footage.
