An 82-year-old man has been jailed for 15 years after being found guilty of more than sixty charges, including the rape of his daughter over an eight-year period.

Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford said Edward Molyneaux of Kilshenane, Listowel, Co Kerry had subjected his daughter to a ‘sustained campaign of sexual abuse’.

59-year-old Marie Murphy delivered her victim impact statement last Friday, and told her father he had robbed her of her childhood innocence.

The court previously heard Molyneaux had made admissions for the most part when first interviewed by Gardaí, but pleaded not guilty to over 150 charges before being found unanimously guilty two weeks ago.

Today in court Ms Justice Siobhan Lankford said the offending was at the highest point of the scale and said it may well be the case that he dies in prison.

The judge noted he made no admission of guilt, never showed remorse and does not accept the jury’s verdict.

She described Marie Murphy as ‘powerful and clear’ during her victim impact statement and wished her well.
