A man has been arrested following the death of an elderly woman in Cork.
The victim, who was in her 80s, was assaulted at a residential property in Carrigaline on Sunday.
Gardaí said she did not initially require medical assistance but later became unwell.
Today, she was taken to Cork University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Gardaí have arrested a man in his 30s and he has been detained him for questioning.
Their investigation is ongoing and the property in Carrigaline will undergo a technical and forensic examination.
A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support the woman’s relatives.
