A woman in her 80s has died following a collision in Co. Clare.

The collision involving two cars happened on the R473 near Kilcarroll near Kilrush at around 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

The driver and sole occupant of one of the cars was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick.

No other injuries were reported.

Gardaí are appealing for any witness to come forward.
