An elderly woman has died after a crash in County Roscommon.

The two-vehicle collision happened on the N4 at Doon near Boyle just before 5pm yesterday.

The driver of one car, a woman aged in her 80s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man aged in his 30s, who was driving the second car, was taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.

The N4 was closed overnight with a technical examination due to take place this morning.

Traffic diversions are still in place.

Gardaí have launched an appeal for witnesses of the crash to come forward.

They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage.
