An elderly woman has died in a freak accident in Co Clare.
The 74-year-old is understood to have been placing her shopping into the back of her car at Francis Street in Ennis when it unexpectedly reversed knocking her to the ground.
The woman's six-year-old grandson was inside the vehicle at the time while a second child was standing close to the car. Both children escaped injury but are being treated in hospital for shock.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and her body removed to University Hospital Limerick for a post mortem examination.
The lady has been named locally as Josie Lucas.
Local councillor Mary Howard is a neighbour of Mrs Lucas, she's expressed her deepest sympathies to the family.
Gardaí in Ennis are appealing for witnesses who were in the area of Aldi and Tesco in Ennis to contact them on 065 68 48100.
