An elderly woman has died in a crash in County Laois.

Two cars collided at Junction 21 of the M7 eastbound in Borris-in-Ossory just after 4 this afternoon.

One driver, a woman in her 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The other driver, a woman in her 50s, has been taken to Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore to be treated for injuries believed to be serious - but non-life threatening.

The M7 eastbound is closed to traffic, with diversions in place.
