The election of a Taoiseach has been postponed as Dáil proceedings have been suspended until tomorrow morning.
Today, the Dáil met for the second time since the election on November 29th, 2024, for TDs to most likely elect Micheál Martin as Taoiseach.
The sitting was first suspended by the new Ceann Comhairle, Verona Murphy, after several TDs raised their unhappiness with the upcoming break.
Following heckles from the opposition benches; the Ceann Comhairle suspended the session.
The Dáil sitting resumed, leading to another suspension.

Then there was a third suspension at lunchtime to allow whips to meet and resolve the issues.
However, as the Dáil attempted to resume after 4.30pm, more chaos ensued as Verona Murphy tried to move on to the nomination of Micheál Martin as Taoiseach.
The Ceann Comhairle suspended the Dáil sitting for the day, to resume at 9am tomorrow morning.
Tomorrow morning will likely see the election of Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin as Ireland’s new Taoiseach, alongside the appointment of cabinet members.
