Customers of Electric Ireland are being hit on the double.
The energy firm has announced a price hike of almost 6% from October 1st for its domestic electricity customers.
It has also confirmed it too will be implementing the 8.5% price hike for gas customers which was sanctioned by the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) earlier this week.
Electric Ireland estimates its electricity price hike will add €1.22 per week to the average residential bill.
Liam Molloy is General Manager of Electric Ireland.
“We regret that we have to increase our electricity prices at this time” he said.
“We are acutely aware of the financial pressures facing our customers and we have done all we can to minimise the increase” he added.
It comes after Bord Gais Energy announced on Tuesday that it too was to increase prices.
The increase there will apply to all residential gas customers and also take effect from October 1st.
Bord Gais Energy had made a submission to the CER for an increase of 7.54% but was granted a 8.50% rise in tariffs
