A flight was forced to divert to Shannon Airport this afternoon, after crew on a transatlantic flight, reported smoke on board and declared an emergency.
A Pakistan Airlines flight, carrying 205 passengers, was travelling from Manchester to New York when the emergency occurred just north of Omagh in Co Tyrone.
Airline crew then issued a request to divert to Shannon, where airport crash crews were waiting along the runway in advance of the aircraft's arrival at 2.38pm.
In addition, fire and ambulance services from Shannon Town, Limerick and Ennis, were mobilised to the airport.
Before the jet could land, the flight crew had to discharge several thousand litres of aviation fuel to ensure they could land within safe landing weight limits.
The jet was able to taxi to the terminal where a further investigation of the problem commenced.
