A woman in her 40s has died following a collision with a train in Ballisodare, County Sligo, An Garda Síochána has confirmed.
The woman's body remains at the scene.
A second woman in her 20s has been seriously injured and has been taken to Sligo University Hospital with serious injuries.
"From what I understand, both women were walking along the track heading back towards Sligo," Paul Deering from The Sligo Champion said.
"Part of the Garda investigation [is to find out] how they ended up on the track."
Forensic Collision Investigators were called to the scene and the coroner has been notified.
100 people remain on the train and will remain there until Gardaí have given them permission to leave.
