David Cameron promoted Nicky Morgan to the position of minister for women and equalities and also the position of education secretary earlier today.

However, it has been reported that Morgan voted against the law which allowed same sex marriage last year.

Morgan said in February 2013 around the time of the vote that she believed marriage was "between a man and a woman".

She told her local newspaper, the Leicester Mercury, “This is a very big social change. There have been plenty of little changes down the years but what’s never been changed is that the fact that marriage is between a man and a woman."

Morgan was promoted this morning as part of a wide-ranging cabinet reshuffle.

She replaces Michael Gove as education secretary, and will have the responsibility of all England’s schools and teaching.

Another minister in her education department, Nick Boles, has been made responsible for implementing same sex marriage.
