Enoch Burke will be fined €700 per day until he tells the High Court he will obey an order to stay away from his former school.
In a written judgement this morning, High Court Justice Brian O’Moore said the fines amounted to just shy of €5,000 per week.
He said he hoped the figure would persuade Mr Burke to “end his utterly pointless attendance at a school which does not want him on its property”.
He noted that, if it does not, the fine can always be increased.
Mr Burke has continued to attend the school this week, despite being dismissed for his role last Friday.
He was suspended from his teaching job on full pay on September 7th last year, following a public row with the school principal.
That came after he refused to address a gender-transitioning student by a different name and with the pronoun 'they'.
The High Court later ordered him not to attend at the school until the process was complete. He refused to do so and spent 108 days in prison for contempt.
His failure to secure an injunction to put a stop to the disciplinary process paved the way for the school to dismiss him last week for serious misconduct
Despite that, he has continued to show up at the school.
Justice O'Moore said the fines would begin tomorrow and the court would review the position at its next hearing on February 10th.
He also noted that the “saga” has led to a slew of court appearances, which are potentially extremely expensive.
He said he will decide who should pay those costs on that date.
