ESB customers on Achill Island in county Mayo are being advised to conserve their use of electricity.
Yesterday evening, the ESB confirmed that lightning strikes caused irreparable damage to the 38kV transformer that supplies the area.
The energy provider says while power was restored to the whole area, by re-arranging the networks, there was an additional fault on a number of low voltage transformers which has left a number of customers without power.
ESB crews will be out again at first light this morning in an effort to repair the last few faults and restore power to customers.
Technicians restored power to around 30,000 homes and businesses yesterday including counties Donegal, Cork, Clare.
Meanwhile, customers experiencing a loss of supply are advised to check their website at www.esbpowercheck.ie or download the PowerCheck app
Meanwhile, people in Achill are being urged to check up on their elderly neighbours.
The local parish priest Fr Frank Mc Grath has expressed his concern for those living alone on the Island.
