Tensions are running high in Greece ahead of a visit by European Commission President Jose-Manuel Barroso to Athens.

It comes amid increased speculation the country is heading towards a default on its debt.

Over the past few days numerous high-ranking officials have publicly talked about the possible default and exit by Greece from the Eurozone without being contradicted.

Although some analysts see these comments as a way of putting more pressure on Greece and not as an immediate threat of the country exiting the Eurozone.

It is the first trip to Greece by Mr. Barroso in nearly 3 years.

The Financial Times says he is expected to push the new government to speed up reforms particularly its long-stalled privatisation programme.

Officials say they are ready to show they can get their bailout back on track.
