Boris Johnson named as new Conservative Party leader in UK
Britain's former foreign minister, Boris Johnson, is set to become its next prime minister.
Voting in the Conservative Party leadership contest among its 165,000 eligible members closed on Monday evening after a six-week campaign.
Following an overnight count, it was revealed that Mr Johnson was the clear winner between himself and the current foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt.
In an acceptance speech, Mr Johnson said it was an "extraordinary honour and privilege" to be elected leader.
Maria Bailey 'demoted' and removed as committee chair over swing claim
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he is "demoting" Fine Gael TD Maria Bailey.
She's being removed as chairperson of the Oireachtas housing committee, but will retain the party whip.
It comes after an internal inquiry into a personal injury claim.

Hundreds of jobs are at risk at Bord na Móna and the ESB, after the redevelopment of an Offaly power plant was refused.
Bord na Móna has said it is "reviewing" a decision over the ESB's West Offaly Power Station.
A plan to switch from turf to biomass at the plant has been rejected by An Bord Pleanála.
The board found that pollution during construction or operation has the potential to lead to a drop-off in vegetation and fish in the water.
Thousands turn out for Shane Lowry's Clara homecoming
Shane Lowry says he is overwhelmed by the number of people who turned out for his homecoming this evening.
Thousands of people gathered Clara in Co Offaly for a special reception for the Open champion.
The event included performances by singer Mundy and impressionist Conor Moore.
On Sunday Lowry became only the fifth Irish golfer in 148 years to win the championship, after a six-shot victory at Royal Portrush.
High Court approves €10.5m settlement for brain injured boy
The High Court has approved a €10.5m settlement for a 12-year-old boy who suffered a severe brain injury at birth.
Sam Forde's parents - Deborah and Des of Glenview Park, Grange, Co Sligo - sued the Health Service Executive (HSE) on his behalf.
Sam was in court today to hear that his case against the HSE was settled.
In the end the case was settled with no admission of liability.
