Varadkar: Britain won’t leave the EU this Friday

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said Britain will not leave the European Union this Friday.

He was speaking as he arrived in Brussels for a special European Council summit on the Brexit process.

The British Prime Minister Theresa May has requested an extension until June 30th - but she is likely to be offered a much longer delay.

Record numbers using public transport to get into Dublin city

New figures from the National Transport Authority (NTA) have shown more people than ever are using public transport to get into Dublin city.

The number of people travelling into the city centre by bus, train or Luas in the morning peak has reached record levels.

The number of cars has fallen for the 10th successive year, with 48,820 vehicles coming into the city carrying 60,537 people.

John Delaney refuses to answer questions on €100,000 FAI loan

It has emerged a report recommending John Delaney be given a new role at the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) was commissioned after media queries into his €100,000 loan to the organisation.

Mr Delaney, its former CEO, has refused to answer questions at the Oireachtas Sport Committee about the April 2017 payment he made - citing legal advice.

He was one of a number of senior FAI officials who appeared before the committee on Wednesday morning.

Over 20,000 domestic violence disclosures made to Women’s Aid last year

The charity Women's Aid has revealed that 20,722 disclosures in relation to domestic violence were made to it in 2018.

Its impact report has detailed 19,089 contacts with direct services - including its 24 hour National Freephone Helpline and one to one support services.

During these contacts, 16,994 disclosures of domestic violence against women were noted.

Eagle Owl missing in Kildare reunited with her owner

An Eagle Owl, who went missing from her Kildare home on Friday, has been reunited with her owner.

The female European Eagle Owl, named Tank but nicknamed 'Owlington', escaped from her home in Curragh Grange while being fed.

The powerful bird has a 6.5-foot wing span.
