British MPs reject Boris Johnson’s call for UK general election

British MPs have rejected a request by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to hold an early general election there.

His motion was voted down in the House of Commons by 298 to 56.

However many MPs abstained, meaning two-thirds support Mr Johnson needed - 434 - was not achieved.

British MP says Ireland treated as "some sort of irrelevance" in Brexit debate

A British MP has criticised some of his colleagues on their treatment of Ireland in the Brexit debate.

Alistair Burt told the House of Commons Ireland has been told to "accept another English demand that they should do something".

He was one of 21 Conservative Party members expelled for voting against the British government on plans to block a no-deal Brexit on Tuesday.

Google to pay record fine for illegally collecting children's personal data

Google and YouTube have been ordered to pay a record US$170m (€154.3m) fine by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

This is to settle allegations by the FTC and the New York Attorney-General that YouTube illegally collected personal information from children without their parents’ consent.

The settlement requires the companies to pay US$136m (€123.4m) to the FTC and US$34m (€30.8m) to New York for allegedly violating a Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) rule.

Explorer Mark Pollock teams up with DCU for new exoskeleton programme

An exoskeleton programme, focusing on technology which allows people affected by paralysis to stand up and walk, has been launched in DCU.

It's hoped the programme will help people in wheelchairs to improve their movement and assist them in getting back on their feet.

The service will help those who've experienced reduced mobility due to a spinal cord injury, stroke, traumatic brain injury, Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson's disease.

Family of Raonaid Murray calls for her killer to "come out from the shadows"

The family of Raonaid Murray has called for her killer to "come out from the shadows and own up to what you have done".

17-year-old Raonaid was killed 20 years ago today.

She was last seen alive at around 11:20pm on Friday 3rd September 1999, making her way home from Dun Laoghaire town centre.
