CS gas spray discovered following London City Airport evacuation

Police investigating a suspected chemical incident at London City Airport believe they have found CS gas spray at the scene.

The airport has now reopened after dozens of people were treated with "breathing difficulties" earlier this afternoon.

The incident saw the airport closed and evacuated while paramedics treated 27 people and the London Fire Brigade (LFB) carried out "protective sweeps" of the airport building.

Jobstown protest teenager to appeal guilty verdict

A 17-year-old boy has been found guilty of falsely imprisoning Joan Burton and her adviser during a protest in Jobstown in Dublin.

The judge described the teenager as an "active participant" in the blocking of two garda vehicles they were in following a graduation ceremony in 2014.

He will escape a criminal conviction if he stays out of trouble for the next nine months.

Following the verdict, solicitor Michael Finucane said the teenager is planning to appeal.

TUI teachers to refuse extra work during ASTI strike

The Teacher’s Union of Ireland (TUI) has advised its members not to undertake “any work normally done by members of the ASTI” who are involved in industrial action.

Members of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland (ASTI) are set to walk off the job in less than a week for the first of seven days of strike action.

Officials from the TUI were meeting today to their response to the ASTI action. 

Former pro-choice activist removed from Citizens' Assembly

A member of the Citizens’ Assembly has been replaced after it emerged he was previously a member of a pro-choice group.

The Assembly, set up to consider a range of issues – including the potential repeal of the Eight Amendment – met for the first time last Saturday in Dublin Castle.

The forum, chaired by Ms Justice Mary Laffoy, is made up of 99 citizens selected by polling company Red C.

"He offered people hope when they felt hopeless": Killaloe pays tribute to its favourite son

The funeral of Anthony Foley took place on Friday in Killaloe, where a touching homily was delivered by Father Pat Malone. 

The rugby world came to a halt for the ceremony, with Joe Schmidt, Declan Kidney, Paul O'Connell, Rory Best, and the Munster team in attendance, while leading figures from the political world, including Micheal Martin and Michael Noonan, also came to pay their respects.
