EU begins repatriation of citizens from coronavirus cruise ship in Japan

The repatriation of European Union citizens from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Japan, at the centre of a coronavirus outbreak, has moved a step closer.

The European Commission has announced the first Italian flight is en-route to the country.

This is being done through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

Attempted arson attack outside home of relative of QIH director

An attempt to set fire to two vehicles belonging to a relative of a Quinn Industrial Holdings (QIH) director was made at the weekend.

It happened outside a house at a location outside Derrylin in Co Fermanagh.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two names in contention as Ceann Comhairle nominations close

Two people will run for election to the office of Ceann Comhairle of the Dáil.

Seán Ó Feargháil and Denis Naughten have sent their nominations to the clerk of Dáil, Peter Finnegan.

The 33rd Dáil will convene at 12.00pm on Thursday.

Almost half of young Irish adults living at home with their parents

The number of young Irish adults in their 20s living at home with their parents has grown, according to new EU research.

It has increased by 11% - one of the highest increases in Europe, along with Luxembourg and Romania.

The study by EU agency Eurofound shows that 47.2% of Irish people aged between 25 and 29 live at home with their parents.

A patient at a British hospital has played the violin while surgeons removed a tumour from her brain.

The unusual approach was taken to ensure areas of her brain, responsible for delicate hand movement and coordination, were not inadvertently damaged during the procedure.

53-year-old Dagmar Turner, a former management consultant from the Isle of Wight, was diagnosed in 2013 with a large grade two glioma after suffering a seizure during a symphony.
