Varadkar: FAI has questions to answer over John Delaney loan

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has criticised former FAI chief John Delaney over his appearance at the Oireachtas Sport Committee.

Mr Delaney, who is now the organisation's executive vice-president, refused to answer questions about an April 2017 payment he made to the group - citing legal advice.

The committee had been looking for answers as to why he gave the FAI a €100,000 loan out of his own pocket two years ago.

Woman arrested over murder of Mikolaj Wilk in Cork

Gardaí investigating the murder of Mikolaj Wilk have arrested a woman.

Mr Wilk died after an attack at his home in Ballincollig, Co Cork on June 10th last year.

His partner, who is in her early 30s, was also at home during the attack and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries in hospital.

Dutch fertility doctor 'fathered 49 children' with his own sperm

A fertility clinic doctor in the Netherlands fathered 49 children, after using his own sperm rather than that of donors.

Jan Karbaat, who died in April 2017 aged 89, denied the accusations and refused to cooperate with those potentially affected.

DNA samples were examined at the Canisius-Wilhelmina Hospital in Nijmegen.

Former Pope Benedict slammed over "catastrophically irresponsible" letter on abuse scandal

The former Pope Benedict XVI has been slammed by Catholic historians and members of the clergy for claiming that the sexual revolution of the 1960’s led to the church’s sex abuse scandals.

In an essay in his native Germany the retired pope also blamed the crisis on the disappearance of god from public discourse in the west and what he labelled dangerously liberal theological ideas that emerged after the second Vatican Council in 1965.

He also criticised church laws that gave protection to priests accused of abuse.

Disney+ streaming service to be available globally by 2021

Disney has announced its new streaming service, to compete with the likes of Netflix, will be available around the world by 2021.

It has revealed its Disney+ service will launch in the United States on November 12th this year.

The company added that it plans to be in "nearly all major regions of the world within the next two years."
