Harris says COVID-19 likely to be around “for quite a period of time”
The Minister for Health has warned that COVID-19 is likely to be around “for quite a period of time.”
On The Pat Kenny Show, Simon Harris said the public response to the coronavirus outbreak has to be “proportionate” as we could be living with the consequences for months or years to come.
He said the Government had not grounded flights from Italy – despite calling for Ireland Six Nations Rugby match with Italians to be cancelled – because the WHO and the European Commission have not issued a travel ban.
Red weather warning for two counties ahead of arrival of Storm Jorge

Met Éireann has upgraded weather warnings on Saturday for the arrival of Storm Jorge.
A red alert has been issued for Galway and Clare.
The forecaster says there will be very severe winds associated with the storm.
Westerly winds will reach mean speeds of 85 to 100km/h in places in the afternoon, with gusts of 130 to 145km/h.
Patricia O'Connor trial: Keith Johnston found guilty of impeding prosecution
The fourth and final person on trial in the Patricia O'Connor murder case has been found guilty of impeding the apprehension or prosecution of her killer.
Keith Johnston - of Avonbeg Gardens, Tallaght in Dublin 24 - was found to have helped Kieran Greene by buying various tools used to conceal her body.
The final verdict came in on Friday morning after 12 hours of jury deliberations.

A 50-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the murder of Keane Mulready-Woods.
The 17-year-old's partial remains were discovered at separate locations in Dublin last month.
Man in hospital after being bitten by venomous snake
A man is in hospital after what is believed to be the first-ever venomous snakebite in Ireland.
Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown in Dublin requested anti-venom from the National Reptile Zoo after a 22-year-old man was bitten on the finger by a puff adder.
The snake is native to Africa and is believed to have been privately-owned as a pet.
