Gardaí say convicted taxi driver's licence revoked since February

The Gardaí have clarified that a taxi driver, who was convicted on three charges of sexual assaults, has had his Small Public Service Vehicle Licence revoked since the end of February.

This means he is no longer a taxi driver and cannot carry any passengers.

He is due to be sentenced in April.

Two arrests after drugs and drone seized near Castlerea Prison

Gardaí have foiled an attempt to get drugs into Castlerea Prison in Co Roscommon.

Two people were arrested after the drugs were seized near the prison at around 11.00am on Thursday morning.

Gardaí stopped and searched a car at Harristown, which is adjacent to the prison.

Green light for 3,500 new homes in Dublin's Poolbeg West

There has been widespread welcome after a development, which includes social and affordable homes, was given the go-ahead in Dublin.

The Poolbeg West SDZ scheme got the green light from An Bord Pleanála on Thursday, subject to a number of modifications.

The project provides for a new neighbourhood of up to 3,500 homes close to the city centre.

Julian Assange found guilty of breaching his bail in UK court

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been found guilty of breaching his bail.

Mr Assange has appeared at a court in Westminster, and could go to prison for up to 12 months when he is sentenced.

He is also facing extradition to the US following his arrest at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, earlier almost seven years since going inside.

Almost game over for dog who ate Nintendo game cartridge

A dog in Scotland was rushed for emergency surgery, when vets discovered he had swallowed a Nintendo DS game.

The owners of Rocco, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier cross, knew something was wrong when the four-year-old pooch started vomiting and refused to eat.

When his condition did not improve, Sean Johnston made an emergency visit to Glasgow's Shamrock Street Pet Hospital.
