Revenue delays planned VAT hike on food supplements

Revenue has announced that it's delaying the planned hiking of the VAT rate on food supplements.

Officials announced in December last year that 23% VAT would be applied on all food supplements from March 1st 2019.

It would represent a 23% increase, as there is currently no VAT rate on food supplements sold in Ireland.

Revenue is now delaying it until November while a review of the tax on supplements is being carried out.

The UK Parliament will be offered the chance to vote for a 'no-deal' Brexit if it refuses to support the withdrawal agreement.

Speaking in the House of Commons, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said MPs will be offered a "meaningful vote" on the deal on March 12th, "at the latest."

She said that if that fails, the House will be asked if it supports leaving the EU without a deal will be held on March 13th.

Should that be rejected, MPs will offered a March 14th vote on a "short, limited" extension to the Brexit process.

Debate on no-deal Brexit omnibus bill gets underway in Dáil

The Dáil has started debating mammoth legislation to prepare Ireland for a no-deal Brexit.

The bill, published last week, is one of the largest and most wide-ranging pieces of legislation to ever go before the Oireachtas.

It's designed to maintain the status quo as much as possible if there's a crash out Brexit in the coming weeks.
