The union representing Luas workers says that Transdev has behaved 'recklessly' in the ongoing row over pay hikes at the company.

It follows comments made by NBRU General Secretary Dermot O'Leary earlier, who condemned the move by Luas operator Transdev to hire buses during a strike planned for St Patrick's Day.

Opinion poll suggests second election would show no major changes for parties

The first opinion poll since the general election has indicated there would be no significant gains for either Fine Gael or Fianna Fáil in the event of a second election.

The poll of more than 1,000 voters by Red C for the Sunday Business Post has indicated a 1% increase for the two parties on their election performances - up to 27% for Fine Gael and 25% for Fianna Fáil.

The poll also shows a small boost for Sinn Féin - from 14% support to 15% - with the Independent Alliance also up a point to 5%.

The only group that sees a potentially significant gain in the poll are the Social Democrats - the poll showing a two point jump in support to 5%.

The important role played by Irish women during the 1916 Rising was celebrated in Dublin earlier today.

The event, organised by The National Women's Council of Ireland, took place at the bandstand in St Stephen's Green, and will reflect on women's role during 1916.

North Korean submarine reportedly goes missing

A North Korean submarine has apparently gone missing, according to reports.

The vessel is believed to have suffered a failure during an exercise and is presumed to have sunk.

The US military is said to have been observing the submarine off North Korea's eastern coast earlier this week and American spy satellites were also later watching the navy search for it.
