Six students from around the country addressed the Oireachtas Climate Committee this afternoon.

The committee is set to release a report setting out over 40 recommendations the State must implement to end Ireland’s carbon emissions by 2050.

It follows eight months of cross-party scrutiny of Ireland’s climate policy – based on the recommendations of the Citizens’ Assembly on climate action.

Airlines offering rescue fares after Wow Air collapse

Several airlines are offering special rescue fares to help stranded passengers, after Icelandic low-cost airline Wow Air collapsed.

Earlier, the company posted an update on its website saying it was in the last stages of "finalising equity raise with a group of investors".

However in a further update, they confirmed they had entirely ceased operations.

In a statement, the airline said: "Some airlines may offer flights at a reduced rate, so-called rescue fares, in light of the circumstances. Information on those airlines will be published, when it becomes available.

House of Commons set for another vote on Brexit deal

The House of Commons will hold another vote on the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement tomorrow – the day the UK was supposed to formally leave the EU.

Tomorrow’s vote is different than the first two “meaningful votes” MPs had on the deal as it does not include the joint-political declaration on the UKs future relationship with Europe.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May was forced to remove the declaration from the vote – as House speaker John Bercow had ruled that she could not ask the house to vote again unless what was on offer was “substantially” different.

It means MPs will be asked to approve the terms of the UKs withdrawal, without giving an opinion on plans for future trading.

Murphy admits Government must do more in rental sector

The Housing Minister says he hopes to bring new measures to Cabinet next week to deal with the housing crisis.

He's admitted the Government needs to do more in the private rental sector.

Eoghan Murphy was responding to criticism of the government's approach to the issue, after the latest homeless figures were published yesterday.

They show 6,480 adults and 3,784 children were living in emergency accommodation in February.

It's the first time the official figures have passed the 10,000 people mark.

Independent review to be carried out into death of mother and baby at Cork hospital

An independent review is to be carried out in to the deaths of a mother and her baby at Cork University Maternity Hospital this week.

36-year-old Marie Downey died after an apparent fall at the hospital on Monday.

Her four-day-old baby Darragh was found alongside her with serious injuries. He lost his fight for life on Tuesday evening.

The South-West Hospital group has launched a full medical investigation into the deaths and this afternoon, the Health Minister Simon Harris said an independent review will also be carried out.
