Beyoncé stole the show last night with a near 20-minute epic performance which closed the awards ceremony.

She performed a medley of 12 songs from her self titled album, Beyoncé.

The star sang and danced while her daughter Blue Ivy and husband Jay Z watched from their seats.

Beyoncé accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award from her husband and little girl. It's MTV's version of a lifetime achievement award.

Tears streamed down her face as they joined her onstage. The couple are putting on a united front amid rumors surrounding the end of their marriage.

‘‘I have nothing to say but I am filled with so much gratitude,’’ she told the cheering crowd.

Beyoncé was also nominated for eight awards.
