Comedian Fabu D has said he did not know a man who took on a challenge for money in one of his videos was homeless.
He has been criticised after posting the video of a homeless man doing the so-called 'Push Up Challenge'.
In the now-deleted video, the man was challenged to do 20 push-ups for €20.
The comedian told Lunchtime Live many other people had done the challenge for him earlier that day.
"I was walking through Ha'penny Bridge, I got this girl from school, she did 20 push-ups [and] I gave her €20," he said.
"I was walking through Henry Street, then this guy walking by a building site, he did 19, but I gave him €20.
"On my way walking towards Grafton Street, I seen this homeless guy; I didn't even see him as homeless - everyone is calling him homeless; I didn't even know he was homeless.
"I didn't want to exempt him from the fun, so I got him to do 20 push-ups and he did 20 and I gave him €20.
"When I gave him the €20, he was like 'my mate just down the road can do 20 push-ups as well'; he showed me his friend and his friend did 20 push-ups and I gave his friend as well €20.
"They were really, really happy and I gave him a hug."
'People took this video wrong'
He said he understands why there was a backlash.
"I kind of understand where people are coming from... I wasn't intentionally downgrading him.
"I just don't want to exempt him from the fun, and I want to make him join this fun I was having with everyone, not just the homeless people.
"I have everyone doing the push-up challenge as well.
"People took this video wrong, they misinterpreted what I was trying to do.
"If I genuinely offended anyone that thinks I was just making homeless people do push-ups, that wasn't my intention to do that.
"I was just trying to spread positivity, fun and love; just make everyone happy at the end of the day".
'Genuinely felt bad'
He said he would like to find the same man again to apologise.
"After I seen what people were talking about this video, I actually genuinely felt bad," he said.
"If I have downgraded this guy in any way, or taken advantage of him in any way, I would love to apologise to him."
He said the challenge is for anybody and everybody.
"I want to just get everyone - doesn't matter if he was black, if he was white, if he was whatever colour - involved in this challenge, but a happy vibe kind of challenge.
"I was in that situation before; I was homeless for two years in Ireland and I understand how it feels to be homeless.
"I didn't see the guy as homeless. I just see him as me and I just decide to have fun with a guy, but if I have offended anyone, if anyone was taking that video really personally offensive, I genuinely apologise.
"I'm not for that - I don't like to create anger or negativity. I like to spread positivity to a lot of people," he added.
