Like Oprah and Richard and Judy before him, Facebook cofounder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has founded his very own book club. The tech titan has decided to take up the challenge of picking up a book once a fortnight, and is inviting Facebook’s 500m users to join in.
A Facebook page has called A Year of Books has been created where anyone can check in to see which pageturner is being read that week and add their take on the book in the comments section.
In his post, Mr Zuckerberg explains why he’s making 2015 a literary year:
"I’ve found reading books very intellectually fulfilling. Books allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today. I’m looking forward to shifting more of my media diet towards reading books."
The first book on the list is Moisés Naím’s The End of Power, which has since risen to number 77 on the top 100 books on Amazon. The Facebook CEO describes it as:
"It’s a book that explores how the world is shifting to give individual people more power that was traditionally only held by large governments, militaries and other organizations. The trend towards giving people more power is one I believe in deeply, and I’m looking forward to reading this book and exploring this in more detail."
Mr Zuckerberg’s has taken to Facebook to share his New Year’s Resolutions before. In previous years, he’s challenged himself to meet a new person outside of Facebook every day, learn to speak Mandarin, chosen to wear a tie to work every day, and opted to only eat meat that he had personally killed.
