Jonathan Hill, the head of the Football Association of Ireland, has left his position.
The FAI said an interim CEO will be announced "in due course" following the departure of Mr Hill.
A "structured search" will then get underway for a full-time successor, the board added.
Mr Hill has been in the role since 2020.
The news comes in a week when the FAI was also expected to announce a new manager of the senior men's national team.
Prior to his appointment Mr Hill had previously worked as Group Commercial Director with the English Football Association, as Commercial Director of Wembley National Stadium and Commercial Director for Euro '96.
He also worked in the wider sports marketing sector, including with IMG and as CEO for the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Back in 2021 Mr Hill said he was committed to addressing issues of pay and opportunities that faced women's football.

He also oversaw Ireland's successful bid to co-host the 2028 European Championships along with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Mr Hill was the first permanent CEO appointed to the FAI following governance issues which emerged under John Delaney.
Mr Delaney became embroiled in controversy over concerns about corporate governance within the organisation and a bridging loan he allegedly gave the association.
In 2019, Mr Delaney refused to answer questions about the €100,000 payment before an Oireachtas Sport Committee citing legal advice.
