The Football Association of Ireland has appointed stockbroker Roy Barrett as its independent chairperson.
Mr Barrett is the Managing Director at Goodbody Stockbrokers.
The association has also appointed two new independent directors - Catherine Guy, CEO of Autolease Fleet Management Limited and Liz Joyce, Director of Human Resources at the Central Bank of Ireland.
A fourth independent director is to be appointed in the coming weeks.
The appointments were recommended by the FAI Governance Review Group, which undertook root and branch investigation of the association's structures.
The Sports Minister Shane Ross has also warned that the appointments were one of the requirements for the restoration of State funding.
This evening, Mr Barrett said he took on the role because he believes the FAI “has an important role to play in developing the game at every level in Ireland.”
“There is a serious job of work to be done to address the very significant failures which have beset the organisation in terms of its governance and its finances,” he said.
“The new Board will now deal with this task with urgency, working collaboratively with its stakeholders.”
Outgoing FAI President Donal Conway said the appointments mark a significant step for the FAI as it “looks to restore public and government confidence in Irish football.”
