The range and quality of accommodation in East Cork must meet the expectations of an international traveller if the region is to attract more tourists, a new report has warned.
A new report by Fáilte Ireland said the limited availability of places to stay across the region and lack of restaurants in Cobh in particular, is a challenge facing the tourism industry.
The report for Cork city, the harbour and East Cork launched today, saying the area could become a global food destination in the short term.
The new report said it aims to “develop Cork as a world region of gastronomy, reflected in the quality and range of food and drink experiences”.
Fáilte Ireland CEO Paul Kelly said the sources of funding for the ambitious five-year plan "will be identified" as they "go through the plan".
"The funding of it will evolve," he said.
"Obviously, there'll be various potential source of funding become available over time, be they kind of rural regeneration, urban regeneration, funding from other parts of government... in the Department of Transport, in the case of greenways, et cetera.
"So there's lots of potential sources of funding."
