A father and child have been rescued from the water in Howth in Co. Dublin. The alarm was raised at around 10am this morning.
The pair were in an alcove in between breaking waves on the west pier. The Coast Guard says they were not in imminent danger but needed assistance to return to safety.
Irish Coast Guard units from Howth Station and Dublin Airport along with the RNLI Lifeboat and Gardai from Howth were deployed to the scene.
Howth RNLI escorted them to an inshore lifeboat and two were brought back to the lifeboat station. The did not require any hospital treatment.
The Irish Coast Guard is reminding people of the danger of walking close to exposed areas like piers and cliffs during stormy conditions.
