The father of Enoch Burke, Sean Burke, has been accused of assaulting a female Garda at the Four Courts last year.
Sean Burke - of Cloonsunna, Castlebar in Co Mayo - appeared before Judge Catherine Hayden at Dublin District Court today.
He is accused of assaulting Victoria Fisher at the Four Courts on March 7th, 2023.
A conviction can result in a fine and a six-month jail sentence.
No evidence concerning the events on the date of the alleged offence was heard.
Mr Burke, representing himself in court, said he would contest the accusation. He will formally plead not guilty at his next hearing.
He was given a summary of prosecution evidence and told he had to return in three weeks to give his official plea.
Enoch Burke
Enoch Burke, who taught history and German, has been in Mountjoy Prison since September after he defied a High Court order to stay away from his former workplace Wilson’s Hospital School.
On March 7th, he had been involved in a legal dispute before the Court of Appeal to dismiss the High Court order.
Some 10 Gardaí were called to the court to forcibly remove Enoch Burke and his family.
One of his brothers, Simeon Burke, was fined €300 at Dublin District Court.
He had been convicted of breach of the peace, which carries a possible three-month prison sentence.
Enoch Burke has continued to refuse to promise to stay away from Wilson's Hospital School if he is released.
The secondary school teacher was dismissed from Wilson’s following his behaviour after his principal sent out an email about a student's wish to transition.
Courts have heard allegations of the teacher "exploding" at a staff meeting. He also reportedly disrupted a mass at the school with students present.
The family has accused judges who ruled Enoch Burke’s dismissal as lawful of “bowing before the altar of transgenderism”.
