Fears are growing for the safety of an American aid worker - who's the latest hostage threatened with execution by Islamic State militants.

Abdul-Rahman Kassig, formerly known as Peter, appeared at the end of the video of the beheading of British aid worker Alan Henning, which the terrorist group posted online on Friday night.

The 26 year old was kidnapped in Syria last October while working for the organisation he founded, which provides first-response humanitarian aid for refugees fleeing the civil war in Syria.

His parents Ed and Paula Kassig, released a YouTube video yesterday, begging his captors to free their son.

This video comes as a human rights organisation reports that at least 35 Islamic State militants have been killed in the US-led airstrikes in Syria.

The British Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed to do everything possible to "hunt down" Alan Henning's killers, and bring them to justice.

Britain is one of 40 nations using military force against Islamic State in Iraq. But the former head of the British Army Lord Dannatt is calling for the House of Commons to hold a second vote on extending the UK's action into Syria as well:
