The Dáil is today debating a Fianna Fail motion calling on the Minister for Justice to reverse the decision to shut down almost 100 garda stations this week.
Fianna Fail is also putting pressure on Minister Alan Shatter to re-open the Garda training facility in Templemore and to recruit more gardai.
During the debate - which comes after the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Dohonoe in Dundalk - the Dail will be told that rural communities are living in fear.
Meanwhile the Dáil is to be suspended for a number of hours tomorrow as a mark of respect and to allow TDs attend the funeral.
Leaders questions will be taken at 9:30am tomorrow morning and business will then be adjourned until approximately 4pm.
The Taoiseach, Tánaiste, members of the Cabinet and Opposition leaders are to travel to Dundalk for the funeral.
100 stations set to close
Fianna Fáil is defending the debate today on closing the stations on the same days as the funeral of Detective Donohoe.
Almost 100 garda stations right around the country are closing their doors this week following a decision by the Justice Minister.
Justice spokesman Niall Collins says despite the murder of Garda Donohoe the debate should go ahead.
