Fine Gael will hold one-day policy discussions with Fianna Fáil and the Green Party next week.
However, Leo Varadkar has told his TDs the party's position is that it would prefer to be in opposition in the next Dáil.
Mr Varadkar told his parliamentary party there is not a basis at the moment to appoint a negotiating team to look at government formation, but he has agreed to one-day policy discussions with Fianna Fáil and the Green Party.
They will focus on housing, health, climate change, the cost of living and the economy.
Leo Varadkar and Micheál Martin will meet again after those talks, following their preliminary meeting yesterday.
Fine Gael TDs are still very reluctant about entering government again, with many wanting to rebuild from opposition rather than doing a deal with Fianna Fáil.
Earlier today it was confirmed there will be no votes for Taoiseach when the Dáil sits next week.
The 33rd Dáil is due to sit for a second time next Thursday following their initial meeting last week.
The Business Committee has now decided there would be no point in trying to elect a Taoiseach - as there is no chance of a government being formed in that time.
Since no new Taoiseach will be elected next week, it means Leo Varadkar will travel to Washington for the St Patrick's Day meeting in the White House.
If serious negotiations on forming a government only start after that, it could be well after Easter before a new Taoiseach and cabinet are in place.
