The leader of Fianna Fáil Mícheál Martin has accused the government of "political opportunism" following his criticism of the Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee.
It comes after the Taoiseach condemned a suggestion by PAC Chair Deputy John McGuinness that taxpayers should pay for ministers' spouses to travel.
Enda Kenny said the remarks were damaging, and smacked of the abuse and arrogance of the previous government's 14 years of mismanagement.
Mícheál Martin responded by saying that the role of the PAC was above politics and that all parties should respect its impartiality.
However the Taoiseach called on Mr Martin to reflect on the credibility of the Public Accounts Committee:
