400 new jobs are being created in Limerick.
They will come on stream at financial services firm Northern Trust by 2017.
The company also has an office in Dublin.
It already employs more than 300 people at its Limerick base.
The roles created will be in traditional and hedge fund accounting, transfer agency, financial reporting, pricing, custody, private equity, alternative asset administration, client reporting and real estate administration.
There will also be roles supporting employee functions such as finance, Information Technology, Human Resources and training, and corporate services.
Jobs Minister Richard Bruton met senior executives of the company today.
“The news that Northern Trust, a major international player in this industry, is expanding in a key regional location is a major vote of confidence for Ireland” he said.
“These are highly-skilled roles, and the company will work with University of Limerick and the Limerick Institute of Technology in filling them” he added.
Northern Trust Corporation was founded in Chicago in 1889 and has had a presence in Ireland since 1989.
It opened its Dublin office back in 2000.
Limerick was then chosen in 2006 as the second Irish location for its fund administration business.
The firm announced July last year that 220 jobs were to go at their Dublin branch.
The Minister for Finance Michael Noonan and IDA Ireland CEO Barry O’Leary have welcomed the announcement today.
