Support for Fine Gael has fallen in the latest political opinion poll.

The Millward Brown poll for the Sunday Independent shows Fine Gael with 25 per cent support - just one point ahead of Sinn Féin.

Fianna Fáil loses support, while Labour makes modest gains.

967 people were sampled for the poll between the 18th and 30th of July - so just before details of the water charges system were released.

And they show Fine Gael taking a hit - with support at 25 per cent, down four points from the last similar poll three months previously.

Sinn Féin gains four points and now stands just a point behind, on 24 - four points ahead of Fianna Fáil, who are down two to 20.

Independents and others are up one point to 24 - but Labour’s vote remains low, up just two points to nine.

But there is some positive news for Joan Burton. Her personal satisfaction rate is 27 per cent, equal with Enda Kenny and Micheál Martin - and a full 11 per cent ahead of where Eamon Gilmore was three months ago.
