The first charges have been brought by police on the Jimmy Savile sex investigation.

David Smith will appear in court next month. He was a driver who as part of his work for the BBC was employed to chauffeur celebrities.

He is accused of 5 sex offences. These include indecent assault and gross indecency on a boy aged under 14.

They relate to incidents which it is claimed happened in the 1980s.

The Crown Prosecution Service says he will appear before magistrates on May the 8th. He is the first person to do so as part of Operation Yewtree.

The BBC has acknowledged he was employed by them on occasions and would transport guests for the Corporation.

Those allegedly abused by Saville include 28 victims being boys and girls aged under 10. However many of the accusers only came forward after his death.
