The North's First Minister designate Michelle O'Neill has described violent scenes at the end of an under 16s GAA match in County Tyrone as 'shocking'.

This morning, it was revealed that a man has been arrested after an alleged stabbing at an under-16’s GAA match in County Tyrone.

The alleged incident took place on Thursday evening in Cookstown during a Championship semi-final between Cookstown Fr Rocks and Fintona Pearses.

It is alleged one man attacked another with a knife and both received stab wounds – all of which unfolded in front of spectators, including young children. One of the victims was brought to hospital.

The GAA says it condemns the scenes 'in the strongest terms possible', adding that any supports needed for underage players will be provided.

DUP MLA Keith Buchanan says it is unbelievable that a violent act has happened in front of young people in Tyrone, yet again.

"So many young people have witnessed that and it comes only after recent months [where] young people involved in sport witnessed the attempted murder of John Caldwell," he said.

"There was no reason or justification to do anything like that."
